This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Legal Operations Associate based in Canada.

Join a dynamic legal team operating at the intersection of technology, business, and innovation. As a Legal Operations Associate, you will help strengthen and optimize the systems, processes, and workflows that support an evolving legal organization. You will manage legal technology platforms, drive operational improvements, and collaborate with stakeholders across IT, Finance, Procurement, and Compliance. Your work will contribute to better reporting, streamlined contract management, and more efficient legal service delivery. You will also explore automation and AI-powered tools to reduce manual tasks and improve knowledge management. This remote-first opportunity offers significant ownership, cross-functional exposure, and the chance to shape the future of legal operations in a fast-paced technology environment.

Accountabilities

As a Legal Operations Associate, you will oversee key operational initiatives, improve legal processes, and ensure that technology and systems effectively support the legal function. Your main responsibilities will include:

    • Design, implement, and optimize legal workflows, policies, and processes to improve efficiency and operational consistency.

    • Implement and manage legal technology platforms, including contract lifecycle management (CLM), electronic billing, and matter management systems.

    • Monitor legal department performance through KPIs, reporting, dashboards, and operational metrics.

    • Support the rollout of Project Hopper and the onboarding of additional legal teams by testing platform changes, documenting configurations, and delivering user training.

    • Manage relationships with external legal counsel and vendors, including onboarding, engagement coordination, and billing oversight.

    • Oversee the legal technology stack and coordinate with IT teams to ensure effective system performance and integration.

    • Collaborate with IT, Finance, Procurement, Compliance, and other business functions on cross-functional operational initiatives.

    • Translate legal team requirements into practical system configurations and continuously improve workflows based on user feedback and request trends.

    • Coordinate with the CIT and Atlassian teams for technical guidance, troubleshooting, integrations, and platform enhancements.

    • Maintain centralized repositories for contracts, templates, policies, and legal knowledge resources.

    • Support and improve the legal team's Confluence knowledge base, working with subject-matter experts to organize approved guidance and enable self-service and AI-assisted responses.

    • Lead and support legal operations projects from planning through implementation, including process improvement and change management.

    • Identify automation opportunities and implement solutions that reduce manual workloads and improve productivity.

    • Requirements

The ideal candidate combines legal operations expertise with strong project management capabilities and an interest in technology-driven process improvement. You should be comfortable navigating complex business requirements, working across distributed teams, and adapting to changing priorities. Key qualifications include:

      • At least 3 years of experience in legal operations, project management, or operational roles within a legal department or law firm.

      • Experience working in the technology industry and familiarity with commercial transactions are strongly preferred.

      • Familiarity with legal technology platforms such as JSM, Confluence, Ironclad, Spellbook, and Brightflag is an advantage, but not mandatory.

      • Proven experience managing projects, optimizing processes, and coordinating operational improvements.

      • Excellent communication, collaboration, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

      • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and navigate complex or nuanced business and legal issues.

      • Familiarity with contracting and procurement processes; experience negotiating, drafting, and advising on commercial contracts is a plus.

      • Understanding of knowledge management, content organization, and access control practices.

      • Ability to translate business requirements into system configurations, troubleshoot technical issues, and document changes effectively.

      • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from a recognized university, supported by strong academic credentials.

      • Additional preferred qualifications include:

        • Previous experience in a technology company or virtual-first organization, with an understanding of fast-paced, distributed collaboration and agile decision-making.

        • Hands-on experience administering Jira Service Management (JSM), including configuring and testing forms, fields, queues, workflows, routing, automation, and reporting.

        • Familiarity with team-managed JSM projects and shared platform standards.

        • Experience with Slack-based intake processes, Rovo, or other AI-assisted knowledge management and workflow tools.

        • Strong AI fluency, including the ability to use AI responsibly to enhance productivity, support decision-making, and improve workflows.

        • Good judgment, adaptability, ownership, and the ability to build trust through effective communication and collaboration.

        • A continuous learning mindset and willingness to experiment with emerging technologies while maintaining accountability for the quality and accuracy of work.

        • Benefits

          • Competitive annual compensation:

            • US Zone 2: $105,200–$142,400 USD.

            • US Zone 3: $93,500–$126,500 USD.

            • Eligibility for a corporate bonus program.

            • Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) as part of the total rewards package.

            • Virtual-first remote working model offering flexibility, autonomy, and location-independent collaboration.

            • Opportunities to connect with colleagues through team gatherings, on-demand workspaces, and community events.

            • Professional development opportunities and access to a collaborative global working environment.

            • Approximately 5–10% annual travel for team offsites and other in-person gatherings, generally 2–3 days per quarter.
