About the role

Project Engineer - Solar and Storage at Jobgether in US. Remote, full-time, paying $135k–$150k. Posted November 3, 2026.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Project Engineer - Solar and Storage based in the United States.

As a Project Engineer - Solar and Storage, you will play a key role in advancing renewable energy projects through technical assessments, energy yield analysis, and asset performance optimization. You will lead solar resource and energy production assessments for utility-scale and distributed photovoltaic (PV) projects while supporting the operational performance of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Combining engineering expertise with advanced data analytics, you will evaluate project risks, optimize asset profitability, and ensure reliable performance throughout the project lifecycle. You will also work closely with clients, investors, lenders, and operational partners to deliver actionable insights and technically robust recommendations. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative renewable energy solutions in a remote-first, collaborative environment. Your work will directly support the acceleration of clean energy deployment and the global transition toward a more sustainable energy system.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead pre-construction and operational solar resource and energy yield assessments for utility-scale and distributed photovoltaic projects.
  • Collect, validate, and analyze meteorological, satellite-derived, and operational datasets to develop Typical Meteorological Year (TMY) datasets, perform Measure-Correlate-Predict (MCP) analyses, and establish long-term solar resource adjustments.
  • Estimate plant energy losses, conduct uncertainty analyses, and develop reliable, financeable energy yield assessments using PVsyst and other industry-standard engineering tools.
  • Evaluate project risks, technical constraints, and performance drivers through statistical analysis, including regression-based assessments of operational data.
  • Manage client engagements from initial assessment through final delivery, clearly communicating methodologies, assumptions, findings, and uncertainties to clients, investors, and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct technical reviews and quality control of engineering analyses, calculations, and reports to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of energy assessment methodologies by calibrating assumptions against real-world operational fleet data.
  • Monitor Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) performance against modeled expectations, including performance ratio, availability, round-trip efficiency (RTE), inverter availability, and degradation.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance (O&M) teams and Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA) providers to investigate and resolve asset underperformance.
  • Develop lifecycle cost and profitability models for storage assets, identifying opportunities to improve financial performance and reduce operating expenses.
  • Analyze energy market data to assess whether arbitrage and ancillary services revenues meet contractual and financial expectations, while overseeing dispatch optimization strategies.
  • Coordinate maintenance planning and operational events to minimize market penalties, revenue losses, and opportunity costs.
  • Manage the analytical framework supporting fleet revenue insurance products, including calculation-period assessments, claims verification, and data validation.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), prepare monthly and quarterly operating reports, review O&M and LTSA provider reporting, and maintain annual performance tracking models.
  • Respond to technical and analytical requests from investors, lenders, regulators, and internal stakeholders, while supporting budgeting and cost forecasting activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve analytical processes, reporting methodologies, and operational workflows.
  • Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in solar resource assessment, energy yield assessment, performance engineering, technical advisory, or a related technical discipline.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Physics, Meteorology, Applied Mathematics, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with PVsyst and familiarity with solar resource datasets and platforms such as Solargis, SolarAnywhere, Meteonorm, NSRDB, MERRA-2, or ERA5.
  • Practical knowledge of MCP methodologies, long-term solar resource assessment, and statistical evaluation of meteorological data.
  • Strong understanding of solar plant losses, energy yield uncertainty, equipment degradation, and operational performance drivers.
  • Experience conducting performance diagnostics, technical assessments, and benchmarking for operating solar and battery storage projects.
  • Familiarity with Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), O&M agreements, and Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSAs).
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments while meeting recurring reporting deadlines.
  • Flexibility to provide occasional support outside standard business hours when required to address operational project needs.
  • Experience in project finance, lender's technical advisory, Independent Engineering (IE), mergers and acquisitions (M&A), or technical due diligence is considered a plus.
  • Knowledge of ERCOT electricity market operations and BESS revenue drivers is an advantage.
  • Experience with revenue hedging, revenue insurance, or other financial risk-transfer products is desirable.
  • Programming and data analysis skills using Python, R, MATLAB, VBA, SQL, or similar tools are preferred.
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and engineering software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or AutoCAD is an advantage.
  • Experience developing analytical tools, technical methodologies, and quality assurance processes is highly desirable.
  • A Master's degree in a relevant technical discipline is considered a plus.
  • A proactive, detail-oriented, and collaborative mindset, with the ability to take ownership of complex technical challenges and continuously improve processes.
  • Benefits:

  • Competitive annual base salary ranging from $135,000 to $150,000, depending on experience, technical expertise, interview performance, and location.
  • Compensation reviewed annually, with potential adjustments based on performance, cost-of-living changes, and internal pay equity.
  • Fully remote working environment, with a permanent remote-first culture.
  • Competitive health insurance and retirement benefits.
  • Flexible paid time off.
  • Regular company-wide off-site events to encourage collaboration and team connection.
  • Opportunity to work on meaningful, mission-driven projects that accelerate renewable energy adoption and reduce global carbon emissions.
  • Collaborative and inclusive workplace culture that values innovation, diverse perspectives, and professional development.
  • Opportunity to contribute to technically challenging solar and battery storage projects with measurable environmental and commercial impact.
