About the role
Superconducting Circuit Designer at Great Sky in Boulder. On-site, full-time, paying $160k–$200k. Posted November 2, 2026.
About Us
Great Sky is a technology startup based with a mission to rebuild AI from first principles. We are pursuing neuroscience-inspired hardware and algorithms that overcome the greatest challenges in scaling AI systems.
We’re seeking a highly motivated superconducting circuit designer to contribute to Great Sky’s AI hardware platform. We are open to mid-level through senior candidates; title and scope will depend on experience.
The Challenge:
Today’s AI systems are limited by data movement, latency, and energy efficiency. Great Sky is developing superconducting neural-network hardware that combines ultra-fast analog computation, local memory, and optical fan-out. Scaling this platform requires disciplined circuit design, verification, and tapeout execution across increasingly complex superconducting circuits.
Your Role:
You will help us realize highly efficient superconducting circuits on the path to massively scaled neural networks that enable inference with orders of magnitude speedups over the state of the art.
How You’ll Make An Impact:
Design of superconducting electronic circuits, including those based on Josephson junctions, SQUIDs, arrays of superconducting-nanowire single-photon detectors, and thin-film amplifiers such as nTrons
Adaptation of existing circuits to advanced manufacturing processes.
Support for post-layout simulation and verification of passive and active superconducting circuits
Collaboration with the fabrication team and external foundries to ensure successful manufacturing of chips
Collaboration with the algorithms and measurement teams to maintain consistency between simulation, design and performance
What success looks like in the first year
Significantly extend and augment our library of superconducting device primitives.
Optimize existing circuits to substantially improve speed, energy efficiency, and scalability.
Efficiently leverage our Python-based design and layout flow.
Designs operation verified through simulations and measurements.
What You Bring:
Required:
MS or equivalent experience in physics, electrical engineering, or a related field
3+ years of experience in circuit design and/or in superconducting circuits
Familiarity with state-of-the-art literature in superconducting electronics
Experience with numerical analysis and simulation of superconducting circuits, preferably some prior experience with WR-SPICE or JoSim
Experience with electromagnetic simulation workflows
Preferred:
Strong scripting ability in Python or a similar language, applied to parametric or automated layout generation
Strong mathematical foundations in linear algebra, differential equations, probability, dynamical systems, optimization, and statistics
Experience building or maintaining parametric cells, layout generators, or scripted layout flows.
Experience contributing to large tapeouts with complex foundry processes
Experience with CMOS analog or mixed-signal design
Benefits and Perks
Meaningful equity ownership in an early-stage deep tech company
Employer-matched 401(k)
Health, dental, vision, and life insurance
Flexible PTO
Support for ongoing learning, conference attendance, and skill development
Our culture is onsite by default (we're founded by scientists who are used to working in the lab), with flexibility for hybrid arrangements. For the right person and role, we're open to filling roles remotely
